areiroNovember is a good time to make plans for ultra-marathon participation during first few months of next year. Because of cold winter/early spring weather in Europe, most popular destinations are tropical islands. Many people ask me: Transgrancanaria or Madeira Island Ultra Trail – which race is better? Even though I have my own conclusion in this area, I don’t want to share it with you. Try both of them and you will see…

I uploaded to YouTube today the footage from most breath taking part of Madeira Island Ultra Trail – high mountain path running from Pico Ruivo (1861 m) to Pico Arieiro (1817 m) to highest summits on Island. The trail is running through high cliffs with spectacular views and is fully protected with railings. Walking through steep slopes, difficult-to-access parts of the ridge is also facilitated by stairs and tunnels (head torch is recommended).

Unfortunately this footage wasn’t done during the race but few days after. My batteries where running out of power when I reached this part of the race. The footage contains only small part of full 12 kilometers route form Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo. The weather was not good – quite windy.
